These 25 photos are proof that Americans need to stop cooking

We all have our favorite cuisine in our hearts, linked to our passions, our origins or our tastes in terms of food. But we will rarely hear that American gastronomy is an example to follow. Aside from burgers and the tradition of barbecue, the US is famous for trying many things that Europeans might be put off. On Reddit, user u/ergoegthatis asked non-Americans to share what they think Americans’ “worst dishes and foods” have. Here is an overview of their responses.

#2 “fruit salads” where half of the ingredients are sweet

Haribo bananas are fruit, aren’t they…?

#3 Jelly cakes

#4 cheese spray

Why why not?

#5 Ranch sauce (the taco sauce) on pizzas

To them it’s ranch sauce, to us it’s the equivalent of a very greasy, very salty mayonnaise.

#6 High fructose corn syrup everywhere

While maple syrup exists a few kilometers further north!

#7 buttercream

Let’s face it, all of their cakes are ganache and buttercream mixes (which they call “Fondant”). And they put a lot of it.

#8 Fried Mars

I tasted fried Mars granola bars at a festival in the US. I am convinced that I passed on diabetes to my ancestors.”

#9 boiled peanuts

A South Carolina specialty, the smell is said to be infamous.

#10 Pizza Chicago

These are actually big demon cakes

#11 A sweet potato gratin with marshmallows

#12 the Twinkies

#13 Candy corn

#14 frying in general

They have an obsession with frying. There are some foods that are better fried, but putting anything in a deep fryer is counterproductive.

#15 Scraps

It is a porridge of leftover pork and stuffing, with cornmeal and wheat flour. Many laugh that there is “crap” in his name, with good reason, he is so famous for being bad.

#16 Biscuits with gravy

“Gravy” is a gravy-based sauce, and Americans seem to like to put it everywhere.

#17 Canned Whole Chicken

#18 “Cinnamon Chili” Sauce.

Chilli sauce with meat and Mediterranean spices that has nothing to do with chilli, as it was imported by immigrants from Western Macedonia in the 1920s.

#19 blue vinaigrette

A thick dressing made from blue cheese, mayonnaise, buttermilk, sour cream or yogurt, milk, vinegar, onion powder and garlic powder.

#20 Sugar Icing

#21 pancakes

Too thick, I could choke my grandmother. I don’t see the point of drowning a bunch of it in her syrup and calling it breakfast.

#22 jam/peanut butter mix

#23 Corn Dogs

Sausages on sticks, covered in batter

#24 twizzler candy

These sweet sticks were originally licorice before branching out into other flavors that are apparently still very bitter but popular in movies or stadiums.

#25 pop tarts

Stuffed grilled meats to be heated in a toaster oven. It is also the most popular product brand of giant Kellogg’s with two billion Pop-Tarts sold each year.
