Robert’s shooting: “facts of extreme gravity” deplores the prefect of Martinique

In a communication addressed to the press this Saturday, November 19, 2022, a few hours after the fatal shooting that broke out in the night in the town of Robert on the sidelines of an organized evening, the prefect of Martinique speaks of “extremely serious acts”. Jean-Christophe Bouvier recommends “coordinated action by all actors” to try to stop this violence which invites itself into festive places.

In the night between 18 and 19 November 2022, a woman died of injuries sustained on the sidelines of an evening in the municipality of Roberto, which had not been declared to the municipality, indicates the prefecture. Two other people were injured and hospitalized at CHUM (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Martinique), one of them in serious condition during the shooting. An investigation has been opened under the authority of the prosecution to determine the exact circumstances of the scene.

“These facts cannot be accepted” protests the prefect of the territory, especially since the day before, Jean-Christophe Bouvier met at his request, subsequently the owners of the two establishments were subject to an administrative closure, following the shooting of Rivière – Sale of November 10, then representatives of party establishments as well as those of private security firms.

I count, in the continuity of these exchanges, to return to the duration of the sanction taken as a precaution. We have a duty to create, with the managers of these private security companies and in close coordination with the National Council for Private Security Activities (CNAPS), the best training and qualification conditions in order to allow agents to exercise their profession in consideration and for the safety of all.

Holiday establishments were asked to quickly apply to the internal security forces, “carry out a safety diagnosis which will allow them to benefit from the recommendations to be implemented free of charge to improve the safety of the establishment”.

He was also remembered during these exchanges “the imperative need to respect the rules relating to the organization of the evenings”and in particular the deadlines for the preventive declaration, which allow, upstream, the police authorities concerned (mayors and law enforcement agencies) to decide on measures appropriate to the situation.

Faced with the terror that these hooligans want to impose, it is only through a coordinated action of all the actors concerned (organizers of the evenings, private security companies, mayors, internal security forces) that we will be able to neutralize them and bring them to justice. It is important that everyone assumes their responsibilities.
