Each airline has its own baggage policy and thus its own baggage allowance. Passengers should therefore be aware of hand baggage allowances, especially when traveling on low-cost airlines.

EasyJet: hand luggage, what you need to know

British airline, easyJet, offers the largest free cabin baggage allowance among Europe’s three major low-cost airlines, according to specialist website Simple Flying.

Passengers of the company are entitled to carry one piece of hand luggage free of charge. EasyJet hand luggage dimensions can reach up to 45cm x 36cm x 20cm. Note that these measurements include things like the handles and wheels of the bag.

This baggage must be placed under the front seat. In terms of free baggage allowance, easyJet allows up to 15kg.

For passengers who wish to check in more hand luggage, the company also offers the possibility of adding a second hand luggage to the booking. An option obviously subject to additional costs.

This bag must be placed in the upper baggage compartment of the aircraft and can measure 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Also in this case the maximum weight allowed is 15 kg.

For its part, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair allows its passengers to carry one piece of hand luggage for free. Hand luggage dimensions on Ryanair must not exceed 40cm x 25cm x 20cm.

As you can see, the free baggage allowance on esayJet is much more attractive than on Ryanair.

For passengers wishing to take more bags with them into the cabin, Ryanair allows a second hand bag at the time of booking, not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. According to the mybaggage website, the cost of adding a second bag varies from €6 to €20 depending on the flight.

By adding a second piece of baggage for a fee, the passenger also has the right to priority boarding.

Wizz Air: what you need to know about hand luggage

As for Wizz Air, the dimensions of the hand baggage allowed for free are slightly higher than those of Ryanair, with 40×30×20 cm. Furthermore, the measures of the Hungarian low cost do not include the wheels or the handles of the bag.

However, the airline, cited by the same source, specifies that ” wheels should not add more than 5cm to the size of the bag “.

For an extra bag, the company offers the “Wizz Priority” formula, which allows passengers to add a second bag whose dimensions can reach up to 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.

The cost of this supplement varies between €5 and €40 when booking online. The formula can also be purchased at the airport with a supplement of €25.
