SEXUAL VIOLENCE – “Dear friends, tonight, a few minutes after midnight, we filed a rape complaint against the former president”. It is with these words that the journalist E. Jean Caroll, a great collaborator of the American version of the magazine Sheannounced on the night of Wednesday November 23rd to Thursday November 24th to sue Donald Trump.

An accusation that is not new. The reporter had already formulated it for the first time in New York Post, in June 2019. She then claimed that the 45th president of the United States had raped her in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan.

Informed of these allegations, Donald Trump then answered incompletely that he could not have done so, since the writer was ” not his type Since then, she has regularly ridiculed him on social networks, including her own, Truth Social.

A first complaint for defamation

The facts, which date back 32 years, date back to the time of the first charges envisaged by American justice. But thanks to a new law that lifts the statute of limitations for felonies and sex offenders in New York State, E. Jean Caroll was finally able to file charges, three decades later. You are seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the suffering caused, mental harm, loss of dignity and damage to reputation.

“This new trial may ruin the former president’s Thanksgiving, but it will give hope to every woman who is grabbed, groped, harassed, pinched, pushed, assaulted or dragged through the mud by a powerful man.”celebrated E. Jean Caroll in a blog post.

After the first denials of Donald Trump, the American journalist had filed a first complaint for defamation against the entrepreneur. But the latter, protected by his status as president, has never really been worried by the trial, which is now under appeal.

Hundreds of trials expected this year

In a new statement, the former US president said E. Jean Caroll had “completely made up” this story of rape, “like all the other lies told about him in the last seven years”. Because in total, let’s remember, 17 women accuse the President of the United States of sexual assault.

The reporter’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said her client had ” intends to hold Donald Trump accountable for not only defaming her, but also sexually assaulting her, which he did years ago in a cabin in Bergdorf Goodman.”.

With the introduction of this new temporary law that lifts statute of limitations in New York State for a year, hundreds of women who have lost the opportunity to sue their abusers are seeing their hopes revived. At least several hundred trials are expected.
